Milanese artist transplanted to New York where his portraits in a short time have captured the attention of critics and public so as to be among the most in demand for the covers of the most prestigious American and European magazines.
Andrea Ventura is an exceptionally successful illustrator in the United States where he resided for twenty years. He created pictures for the covers of major American magazines and won the prestigious gold medal of the American Society of Illustrators.
Andrea Ventura, through an intense style with references to pop art, has made the protagonists of cinema, literature and music, but also of science and politics, the icons perfectly dropped into the ordinary giving space to their expressions.
“New Yorker e dintorni” is the title chosen by Andrea Ventura for the exhibition in the gallery Tricromia in Rome from 4 to 28 May 2016. The title, an idea of Andrea Ventura, comes from the thought that for many years the New Yorker is was his working “home” par excellence. It is precisely for the New Yorker that he has created many drawings, some of the most exceptionally significant here on display. The exhibition is also enriched with numerous drawings and covers of American and European magazines. Hoellebecq’s portrait, chosen for the exhibition poster, was made for Harper’s in 2015.

Andrea Ventura shows an unprecedented group of portraits with so different physiognomies for technique and colors. As the faces flow, various, mysterious characters come to life, from which transpire different moods that are confronted with visions that from a more remote era bring us back to the contemporary.
The enigmatic faces seem to be in the process of making a meeting, of being on the journey to the dreamed destination or maybe stuck at the check-in of an airport teether, visiting the bar on the outskirts of the thirties of the last century, where the five portraits in b/n, pensive looking, appear about to realize, with their eyes beyond the borders, their mysterious encounter.
